Project Overview
Forward Space worked with the client to transform a historic farmhouse into a high-performing workplace that preserves the character of the home while introducing modern functionality. Rather than altering the architecture, furnishings were used as the primary tool to improve how the space works—supporting increased capacity, privacy, and culture. The design needed to balance tradition with modern amenities to create a workplace that feels grounded and welcoming while supporting a growing, evolving team and at the same time, preserving the warmth and familiarity of the home environment was essential to the culture.
The Design Approach
On the main level, open areas were updated with coalescing work and collaboration zones, including a front-of-house community space that creates a welcoming experience upon entry. Natural wood tones and material selections align with existing architectural elements, paying homage to original millwork and central fireplace. In executive offices, traditional and modern furnishings are intentionally paired, creating contrast without competing with the architecture.
Glass-front offices on the upper level of the farmhouse introduce acoustic separation while maintaining visibility and connection across the team. Custom workstations support individuals’ focused work. Personal map and rug collections are integrated across the space—adding identity and reinforcing a cohesive, human-centered workplace.
Outcome
The finished result is a historic farmhouse transformed through a furniture-led approach into a high-performing workplace. Strategic use of wood tones and modern finishes, glass-front offices, and workstations supports growth while preserving warmth and character. Integrated personal collections reinforce identity, creating a connected environment that balances tradition with modern workplace needs.
